Proven excellence in technology created opportunities for Virtual Vision Consulting to explore and embrace a technical service outside of Business Intelligence - IT Forensics.

Our experiences with hardware (client and server), software, R&D, system administration, and data collection/dissemination are leveraged into a cost-effective Electronic Discovery and IT Forensics practice.

The division of workflow within IT Forensics and E-Discovery adheres to the (R)evolution methodology, allowing for parallel tasks and multiple work locations. One or more teams separate the underlying tasks to provide speed, cost-effectiveness, and expertise to the project.

Applying the (R)evolution methodology to Electronic Discovery and IT Forensics separates the typical project into the following tasks:

  • Analysis - the Virtual Vision Consulting team is engaged by the client and the specific situation is evaluated. An assessment is performed on the accessible data and systems, backup procedures and recovery, corporate procedures, and case/regulatory requirements. Formal documented guidelines for the project, including system access needs, specific search terms, and deliverable formats result from this phase.

  • Collection - using methods and tools approved and recognized by courts, the Virtual Vision Consulting team will create multiple software images of hard drives and supporting files necessary for the project. Live and cold-boot imaging strategies are used depending on system availability, and CRC matching ensures data integrity.

  • Investigation - using the software images gathered in the above Collection phase, the search terms and/or specific scenarios are investigated. Original locations, file attributes, and artifacts are cataloged and appropriate source files are moved to the delivery media.

  • Delivery - depending on the requirements established within the Analysis phase, output mechanisms are created for delivery back to the client. Typical types include catalogs of files with matching terms, system access logs, and actual source files.

  • Testimony - if required
  • for litigation or regulatory review purposes, a senior Virtual Vision Consulting expert will be prepared and available for support, including testimony.
